THE POPAGANDA MUSIC FESTIVAL 8.26.11
August 27, 2011 in Reviews
I am in Stockholm, Sweden attending the Popaganda festival! There are so many great bands, and I am very excited about hearing all of this great music this weekend. Some of the bands that I want to see are: The Go! Team, Serenades, Delorean, Säkert!, junip, Midlake, jj, Lykke Li and Arcade Fire. This festival is really cool because it is by a river and people usually relax by the water, listen to the music, drink Öl (beer) and eat veggie burgers…Love it! The festival also features a lot of Swedish indie bands, so it’s a great way for me to get to know some of the up and coming in Swedish indie music.
Arcade Fire was the main act on the Friday show list. Arcade Fire is known for their great music and performances, this show lived up to their reputation. They created a movie-like cinematic experience, the music and film blend added to each song creating this feeling of being in a aged-film musical. It was great to see that the crowd pretty much knew all of the songs from the The Suburbs and Funeral album. The performance was both dope and entertaining, I raised a couple of Öls especially during “Wake Up”.
A Swedish girl that I met at the festival even said:
“Arcade Fire is the U2 of our generation”
Do you agree? Aside from the great Popaganda performances, the weather in Stockholm this weekend isn’t too bad. It’s suppose to be Autumn/Fall weather but it’s a little warmer than usual. I wore this really colorful wool romper that I got from the 109 building in Shibuya, Tokyo, and I added this FRK. sweater I got at a store near the Skanstull station near the festival in Södermalm. I paired it with this rope necklace that I took from the romper and made into a necklace. I also added a vintage necklace and an elephant ring and my moss Rebecca Minkoff bag. As for shoes, I wore simple brown sandals from H&M. Check out this Twitpic, with my friends and I at the festival!
One of my favorite songs and performances from Friday’s show was “Birds” by the Swedish band Serenades. They performed right before Arcade Fire, and I really liked their sound. Prior to coming to the festival I did not know much about Serenades, but a few of my friends in Stockholm said that they were a must see and they were right! Check out “Birds” by Serenades!
