NEW BEGINNINGS.

December 31, 2012 in Features

Everything is changing nothing stays the same! As I welcome the new year … I’m letting go of the past and welcoming the future. It’s been such an interesting year in retrospect, and I’ve learned so much about myself and everything around me. The biggest lesson I learned is the world is changing, and it is depending on us to make it a better place. All aspects of our society and culture are struggling to understand this change, but the change isn’t on it’s way anymore –it is here.

Our pop culture, music, style and media are all influenced by us. Me and you taking control of who we are and what we do with our time and energy — How we use our voice whether it’s through music, style, social media and everything in between. People inspiring each other, creating the news and changing the norm. The future is bright in the eyes of the people who understand their role in this changing world. But few understand the importance of it all. Why find your purpose? Why challenge the status quo? The answer is simple… Because if you don’t someone else will…”The only thing that is constant is change.”

So this year is all about new beginnings…finding your purpose and challenging the status quo!  Here’s a toast to your new year and all of the ideas and goals you plan to achieve. Here’s a few items to start your new year off on the right foot. Your style says a lot about who you are… These items are on my 2013 list.  Have a Happy New Year!

MAKE IT BUN DEM: BEAUTY. HAIR. DUBSTEP X

September 4, 2012 in My Music, STYLE

Here are a couple of shots from the video shoot I recently wrapped up! FYI, I’m really excited about new upcoming opportunities! ( I can’t wait to share).  I did this post because I always get my make up done and never get a chance to capture the moment from my perspective.  This look was for a video hosting segment, and I really like how natural and fresh my makeup looks, and especially how it complements my high bun. I’ve been rocking this high bun look all summer, it’s fresh and honestly it really keeps the hair out of my face.  These photos will help you recreate the look and I made a list of the products that Quiyba (The Hair/ Makeup Artist)  used below.  Also, check out the Skrillex & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley – Make It Bun Dem After Hours (EP).  This EP is an amazing combination of electronic dance and reggae music!  I love that Damian Marley is continuing to work with artists from around the world, this sound adds so much more flavor to his already dope tracks! Damian Marley is one of my favorite Reggae artists and Skrillex is currently holding it down when it comes to electronic music …I Love the EP. You can purchase it on BeatPort.

LACE MILITARY HAT & COMMON ‘NO SELL OUT’

August 25, 2012 in Features, Reviews, Snacks, STYLE

This baroque inspired military hat designed by Rodrigo Otazu is perfection.  I get a lot of my music and style influence from Baroque art and music, which means I seriously do spend a lot of time analyzing a lot of the patterns and sounds during that time.  The Baroque era was filled with over the top patterns, colors and gold! These are three things that I live for when it comes to my style.  I’m loving the lace on this hat with the gold chain, it gives me the Russian model spy vibe! Also, I think the color is everything! This light pink / orange color makes this military hat a lot more fun.  FYI I am 100% open to gifts and donations for my birthday on September 18, please feel free to message me if you plan on mailing me this hat directly, checks are also accepted … I’m just letting you all know in advance just in case you want to start saving up for my gift! Also check out one of my favorite artists Common’s newest track ‘No Sell Out’ produced by No ID … I’m loving the vibe and it goes with the military hat. I’m glad Common is coming out with new music again, he is one of my favorite rappers ( Chi town stand up)  Check it out below and get the free download!

DEFLOSTAR LOOKBOOK FEAT. REESE ANTOINETTE

August 24, 2012 in STYLE, Uncategorized

I recently did the video look book for Tokyo based brand Deflostar shot by AmberCloudFilms.  The video look book features three of  Deflostar’s newest bandanas in gray, red and black. The bandanas reminded me of my 90′s throwback days when I would rock a bandana with hoops and super gelled curly hair (baby hairs included).  Since I was asked to bring my style to these bandanas, I wanted to add a little bit of elegance with the long black gown and edge it up with a street look and large hoops. We shot the video at the Rivington Hotel and around the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the story behind the shoot is an urban NYC girl with a twist … she’s classy but street.  The song featured in the video is by the Black Keys ‘Psychotic Girl ‘ I think it really added to the entire feel of the shoot and the grungy vibe of the L.E.S. Stay tuned for more collaborations with me and Deflostar Japan.
